6 people asked to view set of 36 blue slides varying in intensity, and were asked if they were green or blue
each group had 2 confederates (C's) who both said slides were green consistently
true Ps agreed with Cs 8.24% of the time
in group 2 there was an inconsistent minority (Cs said green 24x and blue 12x), in this case agreement was 1.25%
group 3 - no Cs, Ps just had to identify color = 0.25% of time were wrong
moscovici evaluation - inconsistent
martin - real life world situations are far more complicated (majorities often have a lot more power and status than minorities)
mosovici evaluation - consistent
consistentminority opinion had far greater effect on changing views of other people rather than an inconsistent opinion
wendy wood carried out meta analysis of almost 100 similar studies = consistent minorities were most influential
suggests presenting a consistent view is a minimum requirement for minorities trying to influence a majority
how minorities exert influence - evaluation
moscovici's study was very artificial ad very different compared to real life minority groups. usual minority groups are very passionate but it is hard to be passionate about coloured slides
