    • What is a lab experiment
An experiment carried out in a controlled setting where the IV is manipulated. Pts are aware they're being studied.
    • What is a field experiment?
An experiment conducted in a natural setting where the IV is manipulated. Pts are unaware they're being studied.
    • Lab experiments evaluation:
      • High internal validity - EVs can be controlled
      • High external validity - easily replicable
      • Low ecological validity - pts are aware they're being watched
      • Low in mundane realism
    • Field experiments evaluation:
      • No demand characteristics
      • Extraneous variables
      • Ethical issues
    • What is a natural experiment?
      IV is not directly manipulated
    • What is a quasi experiment?
IV is naturally occurring (e.g. age, gender)
    • Natural experiments evaluation:
      • Allows research where IV can't be manipulated for ethical reasons
      • High mundane realism & ecological validity
      • Can't establish cause & effect
      • Confounding variables
