    • Protection from harm - a pt shouldn't experience negative physical or psychological effects
    • Deception - a pt is not told the true aims of the study
    • Debriefing - pts are informed about the research at the end, to prevent deception
    • Presumptive consent - a way of dealing with a lock of informed consent, ask a group similiar to the pts if they would participate in this study
    • Cost-benefit analysis - a systematic approach for estimating the negatives & positives of any research
