  • A dead or inactive pathogen in injected into the body
  • Once inside the body, the pathogen is recognised by WBCs which produce antibodies which stick to the pathogen
  • Pathogens with antibodies bound to them will stick together until another WBC comes and engulfs them
  • If the same pathogen enters the body again, WBCs will rapidly mass produce the antibodies needed to kill the pathogen
  • A pathogen is 'remembered' by memory cells which makes a person immune to a disease
