AO3 evaluation

Cards (3)

  • + Extract the research from the theory  For example, the AO1 theory is that fathers are important in the development of attachment. The AO3 evaluation of this is that there is research support from White & Wollett (1999) which found that a lack of sensitivity from father can be seen as a positive, as it fosters problem-solving by making greater communicative and cognitive demands on children.
  • + Research suggests that fathers are able to form secure attachments with their children, if they are in an intimate (close) marriage. Belsky et al. (2009) found that males who reported higher levels of marital intimacy also displayed a secure father-infant attachment, whereas males with lower levels of marital intimacy displayed insecure father-infant attachments. This suggests that males are able to form secure attachments with their children, however the strength of the attachment depends on the father and mother relationship
    • Limitation = Use the other argument (e.g.: if you outline that father are important, then evaluate by arguing that father are not important  One limitation is that some psychologists argue the opposite, in that…)
