• 3 - heat loss centre sends impulses to effectors to increase heat loss

  • sweating
• 4 - heat gain centre sends messages to effectors to reduce heat loss and increase temperature

  • shivering, vasoconstriction of arterioles
• where are thermoreceptors


  • skin - warm are closer to surface, cold are deeper, highest density are in face, hands and feet
  • hypothalamus - detects and integrates thermal information, triggers reactions to stimuli
