The Parable of the Vineyard Workers

• What times did the landowner go out at?

  Early morning, 9am, noon, 3pm and 5pm
• What did he instruct the men he found at the market to do?

  To go work at his vineyard and he will pay them what is right (denarius)
• What did the man order happen at the end of the day?

  The worker gather so he could pay them
• In what order did he pay them?

  Starting with those who began working later and then those who started working early.
• What did he pay each of them?

  A denarius
• How did the early workers react?

  They grumbled and asked "why have you made them equal to us when we have borne the burden of working in the heat of the day?"
• How did the landowner react to their confrontation?

  " Didnt you agree to work for a denarius? Take your pay and go, dont I have the right to do what i want with my money? Therefore, the last will be first and the first will be last "
• What does this tell us about the Kingdom of God?

  • Universalism, it is for everyone
  • People will not be rewarded based off how long they have been Christian
  • Everyone is equal in the eyes of God
