  • Steps in making paper:
    1.) Felled timber is debarked and then chipped into tiny fibres.
    2.) Fibres are mixed with water and chemicals - pulp
    3.) Pulp is boiled to separate the cellulose and lignin.
    4.) Additives added for smoothness and absorbency ‘sizing’.
    5.) Pulp put on mesh to create a mat.
    6.) Mat squashed between felt rollers, squeeze out moisture
    7.) Heated rollers evaporate moisture
    8.) Trimmed and wrapped around a drum.

    Thin, highly absorbent, 2 or 3 ply’s
    Used for craft projects
  • Newsprint
    Thin, off white, untreated, slightly rough, low cost
    Used for newspapers and leaflets
  • Bleed-proof paper
    Prevents ink from spreading outwards/blurring
    Used for rendering with markers
  • Metal Effect card
    Metallic finish, expenaive
    Used for gift packaging
  • Mount board
    Thick, cuts well, rigid, quality finish
    Used for mounting artwork
  • Corrugated cardboard
    Strong but lightweight, absorbs impacts
    Used for packaging in transportation
  • Photo quality paper
    Glossy surface, holds colour well, quick-drying
    Used for photos, greeting cards
  • Foam core board
    Thick, stiff, shiny, cut with craft knife
    Used for displays, architectural models
  • Laminated board
    Water-proof, retains freshness
  • Solid white board
    Thick, stiff, can be laminated
    Used for packaging, postcards
