  a small scale trial run of the actual investigation. It ensures procedure and materials are working and allows for modification
• What is a single blind procedure?

  participants are unaware of what condition they’re in o whether there is another condition at all (researcher aware)
• what is a double blind procedure?

  neither participants or researcher aware of the aims of the investigation
