Working Memory Model

    Cards (6)

    • The Working Memory Model has different stores of limited capacity
    • The Working Memory Model was created by Baddeley & Hitch (1974)
    • What is a supportive case study for the Working Memory Model?
Patient KF - damaged his left parietal occipital region from motorbike crash. He had poor STM auditory info but could process visual info - he could recall letters / digits better when he read them, but not when read to him
    • Patient KF's phonological loop was damaged, but his visuospatial sketchpad was intact
    • What are some limitations of the working memory model?
The Central Executive is too vague and untestable, and patient EVR had a cerebral tumour removed, and performed well on reasoning but poorly on decision-making
    • A limitation of the Working Memory model is that the Visuospatial sketchpad implies all spatial info was once visual, however blind people have excellent spatial awareness
