    * could be bc of disease, injury or ageing
    * SCN is part of hypothalamus, so could cause trouble sleeping
    * could be bc brain doesn't react to daylight normally so melatonin isn't produced as normal
    * so people with damage to it are given a drug as a replacement for melatonin
