Metallic bonding

Subdecks (1)

Cards (6)

  • Bonding substances
    Metals with other metals
  • structure
Outer shell electrons of atoms are delocalised so they are free to move throughout the whole structure, this gives a giant structure if ions in a regular lattice pattern.
  • Properties
High melting or boiling point because metallic binding is very strong, very good electrical and thermal conductors because they have delocalised electron that can carry charge and transfer thermal energy throughout the structure, malleable because atoms are in layers so they can easily slide over each other.
