    some people believe politicians lie and there’s no point it voting.
    for example in 2020 SNP MP Margaret Ferrier caused controversy when she travelled from scotland to london with a positive covid test, she refused to resign.

    this means when a person does not care to vote they are apathetic and don't believe voting is worthwhile. they may also find the voting system too confusing leading for them to not vote
    for example in the 2022 Scottish local council elections there was only a turnout of 44.8%

    there are many other ways to participate in a democracy like joining a pressure group or trade union, this may be effective in pushing for change as strength comes in numbers.
    for example teachers may join the EIS to protect their rights, rather than voting
