  One way newspapers are effective is because they are allowed to show bias. This means that as we live in a democracy we have a free press which means we can criticise the government. Most newspapers support a certain party will print good things about them. They will also print negative stories about the party they don't support. For example, on the 12th December 2019 (general election day) 'The National' newspaper in Scotland headline was "If you want independence, vote SNP." The Daily Mail headline encouraged voters to "Back Boris."

  Another way social media is effective is because it is one of the main ways to gain political information. This means that almost all political parties have blogs, "X" feeds and Facebook accounts to connect with the public. Political parties now conduct online campaigns and social media can create people in a good and bad light which influences people's decisions on who to vote for. For example, millions of people regularly access BBC news on a weekly basis.

  A final way TV is effective is because they can run political debates. Though broadcasters have to be balanced in their reporting, by putting on leadership debates they allow the public to see how the political leaders do under pressure and this helps voters make up their mind. For example, recent studies show voters think that TV debates have been the most influential.
