Cards (7)

  • what is desalination and how is it done?

Process of removing salt from seawater to make pure water
-water is separated from salts using distillation
  • what is sedimentation and chlorination?

    • sedimentation filters water from rivers or lakes to remove larger particles and impurities
    • chlorination is where chlorine id added to kill microorganisms in the treated water
  • what is fractional distillation and what is it used for?

Separation process. Used to separate components of a mixture based on boiling points is used to make alcoholic drinks and separate out the gasses in the air
  • how do you find the Rf value in chromatography?

Rf=distance moved by the spot/distance moved by the solvent
  • why is distillation used?

makes pure water by separating it from the undissolved solids
it evaporates the water and then condenses it again using a still
  • why can physical changes be reversed?
the chemical properties dont change as only the arrangement of particles change
  • what are the states of matter?

    solid, liquid and gas
