Rapid, automatic responses to cerain stimuli that don`t involve the conscious part of the brain - they can reduce the chances of being injured
Where do neurons in reflex arc go through?
The spinal cord or through an unconscious part of the brain
What happens when a stimulus is detected?
It is detected by receptors and impulses are sent along a sensory neurone to CNS
Where do impulses travel after?
Reach a synapse between the sensory neurone and relay neurone, they triger chemicals to be released. These chemicals cause impulses to be sent along the relay neurone
What happens when the impulses reach a synapse between the relay neurone and motor?
The same thing happens, chemicals are released and cause impulses to be sent along the motor neurone
What do impulses do then?
Travel along the motor neurone to the effector (muscle/gland)
What does effector do?
Contacts
Because you don`t have to think abou the response it`s quicker than normal ones
