  carry impulses from soma
• what does the myelin sheath do?

  protect axons and speed up transmission
• how does the myelin sheath speed up transmission?

  nodes of ranvier speed it up by forcing impulse to jump across gap
• what is at the end of axons?

  terminal buttons
• what do terminal buttons do?

  communicate with next neuron across synapse
• how does a neuron get fired?

  • neuron usually more negatively charged inside
  • becomes positively charged for a split second and produces an action potential
  • creates an electrical impulse that travels down axon
