  • Why is heat required for Benedict's solution?

Reducing sugars (such as glucose) contain free aldehyde or ketone groups that can donate electrons. These electrons reduce blue copper(II) ions (Cu²⁺) in Benedict's solution to form orange or brick-red copper(I) oxide (Cu₂O) precipitate. Without heat, the reaction is too slow or might not occur at all.
