  • What is evangelism?
    The spreading of the Christian gospel by public preaching or personal witness
  • Why is evangelism important to Christians?
    It allows them to demonstrate the love of God and his compassion for others. They also believe that they can help people discover their real purpose in life
  • What did the Church Missionary Society do in the 19th century?
    Sent missionaries to parts of the world where the majority of people were not Christian such as Africa, Japan and the Middle East. They set up Churches and trained local people to be ministers. They also set up schools so that local children could be raised and educated as Christians
  • What is the Alpha Course?
    An evangelistic course for churchgoers to invite non-churchgoing guests to share a meal and listen to a talk about aspects of the Christian faith and discuss it. It aims to show more people what the Christian faith is
  • Who was Billy Graham?
    A Protestant preacher who preached to thousands in packed football stadiums
  • What was the impact of Billy Graham's crusades?
    Thousands of people converted each night. Eg 40,000 converted in London within 3 months
  • What is the Children's Society?
    Gave homeless children an upbringing in a loving family environment. From the 1970s onward there were less homeless children so the Children's Society changed their focus towards helping young people deal with illness, stress or poverty in family day-care centres
  • What did John Cadbury aim to do?
    Stop poverty and provide a safe and healthy environment for his employees to live and work
  • What did the Icthus Church do?
    Looked after the poor through projects such as help and housing for the homeless, providing a catering service to help feed the lonely and nurseries and primary schools. Also had an inter denominational empliemnt project
  • What is the London city mission?
    Aimed to evangelise London. Worked alongside churches and the local community
