  • The CID was set up in 1878.
  • Charles Warren was appointed Met Commissioner in 1886. Warren banned a protest in Trafalgar Square, which resulted in many injuries when he deployed thousands of police officers. When Jack the Ripper struck in 1888, Warren ordered for an increase in patrols, but failure to catch him resulted in Warren losing his job.
