Alpha bias

• Alpha Bias refers to theories which exaggerate or overestimate the differences between males and females
• Freud argued girls don’t suffer the same oedipal conflict as boys they don’t identify with their mothers as strongly as boys identify with their fathers and girls suffer from ‘penis envy’
• evolutionary approach alpha biased. says men tend to be dominant and women a parental investment in offspring. society now changed and evolutionary perspective shouldn't be used to justify gender differences
