Gynocentrism

• Gyno centrism means being centred on or dominated by females e.g. Moscovici minority influence and Ainsworth’s Strange Situation
• Moscovici used all female pp's but assumed findings generalised to both genders as did Ainsworth so suffer from gynocentric, beta bias
• If focusing on female perspective leads to lack of validity or reliability, it has gynocentric bias
• can lead to invalid conclusions or alpha bias e.g. Bowlby's attachment on women (mothers biologically programmed to form unique bond with children, suggesting babies attachments to mothers most important)
• leads to alpha bias (women more important in childcare, no evidence), governments and court cases prioritise mothers in deciding upbringing of children
• much less of a difference between men and women than Bowlby suggested so criticized for gynocentric alpha bias
• Attachment research has historically been gynocentric.
