  • What is 'The schizophrenogenic mother'?
Proposed by Fromm-Reichmann (1948), a schizophrenogenic mother is cold, rejecting and controlling. They tend to create a family climate based on tension and secrecy. This can lead to paranoid delusions and ultimately schizophrenia.
  • What is the 'Double-bind theory'?
Proposed by Bateson et al (1972). This is where a child regularly feels mixed emotions due to the messages received by the parent (love & hate) This is reflected through symptoms like disorganised thinking and paranoid delusions.
