[2.4] Friction

Cards (5)

  • FRICTION
Caused by the irregularities in the surfaces in mutual contact, and it depends on the kinds of material and how much they are pressed together.
  • CHARACTERISTICS OF FRICTION
    1. Parallel to the contact surface between systems and always in a direction opposing motion.
    2. Does not depend on the speed.
    3. Does not depend on the surface area of contact.
  • TYPES OF FRICTION
    1. Static Friction
    2. Kinetic or Sliding Friction
    3. Rolling Friction
    4. Fluid Friction
  • ROLLING FRICTION
Force resists the motion when a body (such as a ball, tire, or wheel) rolls on a surface.
  • FLUID FRICTION
Occurs as an object pushes aside the fluid it is moving through.
