Humoral response

Cards (9)

  • where do b cells remain until they mature?
    bone marrow
  • where do b cells concentrate in the body?
    lymph nodes and spleen
  • what do b cells do once mature?
makes one type of antibody, then a glycoprotein receptor which then recognises a complimentary antigen, the select b cell then divides by mitosis and differentiates into a plasma and memory cell
  • Clonal selection?
Process by which immune cells are selected and activated in response to specific antigens
  • clonal expansion?
select cells that divide by mitosis then differentiate into plasma and memory cells
  • primary immune response?
not many B cells, takes a long time, first exposure and beginning of making antibodies
  • secondary immune response?
faster and stronger, more antibodies due to the memory cells, long term immunity
  • what does the humoral response consist of?
b cells - antibodies, clonal selection , clonal expansion, plasma cells, memory cells
  • what do plasma cells secrete?
    antibodies
