JCC v Eisenhower: V was hit in the eye with a pellet fired from an air pistol. He suffered a ruptured blood vessel in his eye; A wound was defined as “breaking all layers of the skin”. This excludes internal bleeding.
DPP v Smith (1961): GBH means no more or no less than “really serious harm”
R v Burstow: GBH is serious physical or psychiatric harm.
R v Dica: Defendant knew he was suffering from HIV and infected two women through consensual sex.
R v Brown and Stratton: a series of minor injuries can amount to GBH.
R v Parmenter: Defendant did not foresee risk of any harm to his young baby.
-Defendant must intend grievous bodily harm (ie intend really serious harm, either physical harm of psychiatric harm)
