KEY ASSUMPTIONS

• KEY ASSUMPTIONS OF THE HUMANISTIC APPROACH:

  • POSITIVE approach- Freud dealt with the “sick half” of psychology
  • ONLY APPROACH that says that humans are “self-determining” and have “free will”
  • However, it still believes that people are affected by EXTERNAL & INTERNAL influences, but are still ACTIVE AGENTS who can determine their own DEVELOPMENT
  • As active agents, we are all unique (study of subjective experiences, rejects scientific models)
