  • Pre-natal scans
  • Detecting flaws in metals
  • Sonar

• Ultrasounds have a frequency above 20,000 Hz.
• How ultrasound is used in pre-natal scans;

  1. Ultrasound is emitted form the probe.
  2. The wave the hits a boundary and is partially reflected and travels back to the probe.
  3. The distance that the waves travels is calculated and a computer is able to use this to create an image.
  4. Tissue is darker as the waves are absorbed.
