After an egg is fertilised it should move down into the uterus to develop. An ectopic pregnancy occurs when a fertilised egg gets stuck in the fallopian tube and starts to develop there. The fertilised egg cannot develop properly and the mother's health may be at risk. Sometimes an operation has to be carried out to remove the fertilised egg.
