predator-prey relationship

• if availability of food falls, the number of organisms in the community will fall
• new predators can affect existing predators in competing for the same prey
• every food chain begins with a producer, they are extremely imporant

• organisms that eat producers are primary consumers
• primary consumer are eaen by secondary consumers
• secondary consumers can be eaten by tertiary conumers
• conumers that kill and eat other animals are called predators and the animal eaten is a prey
• when the population of prey increases, the predator population increases as more prey are eaten
• as the prey is eaten, the population of prey falls as predators have no more food source, the population of prey decreases
• if something changed in the community like a new predator or a drought, then the predator-prey cycle will change drastically
