Standard form 💙

Cards (7)

  • Standard form is for writing very long or very short numbers in an easier way
  • every standard form must have these 3 things …
    A x 10 n
    A - number between 1 and 10
    x10 - always ‘ x10 ’
n - must be an interger power
  • Adding, subtracting standard form

simply split equation and solve the small problems individually, then put together with subtraction or addition symbol, then convert back into standard form if needed
  • dividing standard form
    1.separate numbers( x ./. x) from powers (10n ./. 10n)
    2.solve mini equations
3 then put the 2 answers together
    ( ex. 3x10 to power 4 )
  • Multiplying standard form -
    1.separate numbers (n x n) from powers (10 to power of n x 10 to power of n)
    2.work out mini equations
    3.put them together using a ‘ x ‘
    (Ex. 3 x 10 to power 4)
  • Power of 0 ( ex. 2 to the power of 0)
    ALWAYS equals 1
  • Power of 1 - always itself (2 to power of 1 = 2 )
