Behaviour may be learned via direct reinforcement or vicarious reinforcement
We are active learners in our enviroent
Attention- Noticing the behaviour
Retentions- Remembering the behaviour
Reproduction- Having the ability to complete the behaviour
Motivation- Wanting to do the behaviour
BanduraEt Al- Recorded the behaviour of how young children acted towards a Bobo doll after they watched an adult aggressively attack the doll
Bandura and Walters - Split the children into 3 groups. 1 group saw the adults being praised for aggression, the 2nd group saw the adults be punished and the 3rd group saw nothing happen to the adults
Strengths of Bandura - Experimental Method, Bandura established cause and effect
Reliable results as a standardised procedure was used meaning the study was replicable and reliable
Limitations of Bandura - low ecological validity
Snapshot Results, as it can not tell us if a single exposure can have long-term affects
Strengths- More complete than the behaviourist approach
Practical Applications as it has been used to help get rid of phobias
Limitations- Over reliance on Lab studies and Underestimates biological factors
VicariousReinforcement- Indirectly encouraging behaviour the observer is reinforced when they see a model getting a reward , making the observer more likely to imitate behaviour
