• Chromosomes

  2 strands of DNA that are genetically identical and get split apart
• Chromatids

  One of the 2 stands of DNA in a chromosome, genetically identical so both cells will become the same genetically
• Centromere

  The centre point of a chromosome where spindle fibres attach to split the chromatids
• Centriole

  Produces the spindle fibres that splits the chromatids
• Spindle fibres

  Proteins that attach to the centromere to split the chromatids
• Equator

  The middle part of the cell where the chromatids line up before splitting
• Poles

  Opposite ends of the cell where the centriole produces spindle fibres from
• Diploid number

  Total number of chromosomes in a cell, e.g. 46 in humans
