    • (AO1) Define conformity
      A type of social influence that describes how a person changes their attitude/behaviour in response to group pressure.
    • (AO1) Define compliance
      Shallowest level of conformity

      A person JUST changes their public behaviour due to the presence of the reference group.

      When group no longer present - nor is the behaviour change

      Short term change

      Often due to normative social influence

      E.g. wearing black clothes when with friends but colourful when alone.
    • (AO1) Define identification
      Middle level of conformity

      A person changes their behaviour publicly and privately

      Occurs when their beliefs are in line, but then change when in another setting.

      Short term

      Due to normative social influence

      E.g. a person in the military may act differently when on tour than when at home
    • (AO1) Define internalisation
      Deepest level of conformity

      A person changes their behaviour publicly and privately

      Long term = permanent change of behaviour

      Due to informational social influence

      E.g. when a person changes religion, moving from Christianity to Judaism
