  • What is an action potential?
When the neurone recieves signals from sensory receptors, sodium channels on dendrites open up causing sodium ions to leave the cell- causing depolarisation. Once the threshold is reached, it activates voltage gated sodium channels to open caisung an action potential. Once they close and potassium ones open, repolarisation occurs as potassium ions leave the cell. hyperpolarisation now occurs and potassium close. The sodium potassium pump now return it to normal state- 3 sodium out and 2 potassium
