  • Free and fair elections
    Elections are held by the Electoral Comission - an unaffiliated body
    Laws are made to limit campaigning - spending limits and equal broadcasting rights, this also includes the purdah (4 - 6 weeks wherein new proposals are not allowed)
  • Universal Suffrage
    Everyone over the age of 18 and that is not mentally incapable, a peer or a prisoner, can vote and all votes are equal in value, regardless of age, gender, or race
  • The Party System
    Wide variety of MPs and parties elected in parliament - more representative of the people
    Allows more scrutiny and debate in Parliament

    Helps represent more groups of people with more specific views that they want heard
    Help raise public awareness and educate the electorate
    An alternate form of participation

    Representatives of the people that are better informed make decisions on the behalf of the electorate

    Devolved nations have assemblies or smaller parliaments that discuss more specific issues pertaining to the area they represent
