  bones of the limbs + their girdles r collectively called the appendicular skeleton cos they r appended to the axial skeleton

  the pectoral girdles attach the upper limbs to the body trunk

  the more sturdy pelvic girdle secures the lower limbs

  altho the bones of the upper + lower limbs differ in their functions + mobility, they have the same fundamental plan

  = each limb is composed of 3 major segments connected by movable joints
