• Causes

  In 185 the dakota Sioux had given up 24 million acres of land and moved into a reservation

  In return for government money and supplies

  Government didnt stick to their promise

  Reservations agents refused to provide food till the tribe had settled unpaid debts It had with traders

  With no food they began to starve
• events

  in 1862 the tribe was desperate, some had tried to survive by eating grass,

  led by cheif litte crow, members of the tribe raided government storehouses for food.

  the warrior brotherhood attacked settlers and towns. killed 600 americans including women and children
• consequences

  400 sioux arrested

  38 hanged - largest hanging in us history

  Little crow killed iin 1863

  Rest of tribe moved into even poorer reservations

  Many starve to death in the winter of 1863 -1864
