    Internalisation - agreeing with social norms publicly and privately
  • What is identification? 

    Identification - conforming to social norms based on value, public agreeance but private disagreement

    Compliance - a superficial change in opinion to conform to social norms, stops when group pressure stops

    • Agreeing with the majority view based on who has better information
    • Cognitive process involving thinking
    • Usually happens in new, ambiguous or high-stress situations with an "expert"

    • Agreeing with the majority view based on what's socially accepted
    • Emotional process as we seek approval
    • Usually happens in unfamiliar situations with strangers or those in high regard
