  Looking at the happiness for each person which helps protect individual rights
• "It is better to be a human dissatisfied then a pig satisfied; better to be Socrates dissatisfied then a fool satisfied"
• What is rule utilitarianism?

  Setting up a series of rules to achieve the greatest happiness for the greatest number (e.g. laws)
• Mill distinguished lower pleasures ( drinking, sex, eating, rest) from higher pleasures (intellectual, aesthetic, social enjoyment)
