  • A text is a passage of words that conveys a set of meanings to the person who is reading it
  • Social issues are behaviors or canditions that negatively impact members of society and therefore demand a solution.
  • Four characteristics help us define whether or not a problem is a social issue:
    1. The problem has negative consequences for large portions of the population.
    2. Most people in the population recognize this issue as a significant problem that needs to be addressed.
    3. The problem goes against what the majority of citizens consider the values or principles of that society.
    4. The issue can be solved through social action, resources, or regulation
  • Concern
    To cause worry to someone
  • Disposition means the positive or negative way a person views the world.
    In contrast, your character is determined by your inner moral values and your personalit, reflects what you're like as an individual
  • Text to Self
    Relating information and insights from a text to our personal experiences.
  • Text to Text
    Relating information and insights from a text to another text previously read.
  • Text to World
    Relating information and insights from a text to what we know about the world, like social issues, real life situations and events, and other things happening around us.
