  • What is direct aggression?
    • Physical agression between the players
    • deliberately inflicting harm
    • not legal - ie judo doing an illegal kick
  • What is indirect aggression?
    • Doesn't involve physical contact
    • Taken out on an object to gain an advantage
    • May mess up the opponent physiologically and can get in their head
    • ie. smashing a tennis rally or giving opponent/teammate the silent treatment
  • What is an introvert in sport?
    • Don't require high levels of arousal - can easily be over aroused and get overwhelmed
    • Shy and quiet
    • are able to concentrate on one thing for a long period of time
    • Enjoy doing single sports ie long distance running or darts
  • What is an extrovert in sport
    • Require high levels of arousal
    • Energetic and sociable
    • Prone to boredom if isolated
    • Good in team sports due to the socialisation and confidence required - fast paced and gross skills are used
  • What is intrinsic motivation?
    • Comes from within the performer
    • Comes from a desire for self satisfaction and self pride
    • Driven to succeed due to internal feelings
  • Extrinsic motivation
    • From another thing/person
    • May be tangible ie trophy or prize money
    • Intangible - applause, praise, reputation
    • May lead to being over pressured
    • Performers may become over reliant
    • Intrinsic is better more likely to lead to more effort
