• free recall is a task where partcipants are asked to recall a list of items
• winograd and killinger in 1980 investigated students memory to see if they could recall the moment they heard about the assassination of president kenndey
• if students could recall the assasination they were asked another question this was known as strict recall
• the strict recall questions of where they were what they were doing or who told them
• Winograd and Killinger also found that the older theparticipants were in 1963, the more strict criterionevents could be recalled.
