  if any C-C bond is not a single bond
• how can you tell a molecule is unsaturated from looking at the chain?

  the chain gets a kink and if theres at least 1 double C-C bond
• what state are unsaturated lipids at room temperature and why?

  they are liquids as the molecules cant align uniformly and the lipid does not solidify readily
• what are some examples of unsaturated lipids?

  plant lipids (occur as oils):

  • olive oil
  • sunflower oil
• what does mono-unsaturated mean?

  if only 1 C-C double bond is present
• what does poly-unsaturated mean?

  if many C-C double bonds are present
• what does unsaturated fatty acid mean?

  at least 1 C-C bond is not single
