• REFLEXES

  ● Rapid, predictable, and involuntary responses to stimuli

  ● Always goes in the same direction

  ● 2 types of reflexes: somatic reflexes and autonomic reflexes
• SOMATIC REFLEXES

  • Stimulate the skeletal muscles
  • Involuntary even though skeletal muscles are normally under voluntary control
  • Ex: when you quickly pull your hand away from a hot object
• AUTONOMIC REFLEXES

  • Regulate the activity of smooth muscles, heart, and glands
  • Ex: regulate digestion, elimination, blood pressure, and sweating
