• TYPES BASED ON FUNCTION

  ● Sensory neuron

  ● Motor neuron

  ● Interneurons (association neuron)
• ● Sensory neurons

  ○ Carry impulses from the sensory receptors to the CNS

  ○ Their cell bodies are always found in a ganglion outside the CNS
• ● Sensory neurons

  ○ Simple types of sensory receptors:

  ■ Cutaneous sense organs — in skin; to detect pain, temperature, touch, pressure

  ■ Proprioceptors — in muscles and tendons; to detects stretch
• ● Motor neurons

  ○ Carry impulses from the CNS to viscera and/or muscles and glands
• ● Interneurons (association neuron)

  ○ Cell bodies located in the CNS

  ○ Connect sensory and motor neurons
