L1.1.3.2.4: Types Based on Function

Cards (5)

  • TYPES BASED ON FUNCTION
    Sensory neuron
    Motor neuron
    Interneurons (association neuron)
  • ● Sensory neurons
    ○ Carry impulses from the sensory receptors to the CNS
    ○ Their cell bodies are always found in a ganglion outside the CNS
  • ● Sensory neurons
    ○ Simple types of sensory receptors:
Cutaneous sense organs — in skin; to detect pain, temperature, touch, pressure
Proprioceptors — in muscles and tendons; to detects stretch
  • ● Motor neurons
    ○ Carry impulses from the CNS to viscera and/or muscles and glands
  • ● Interneurons (association neuron)
    ○ Cell bodies located in the CNS
    ○ Connect sensory and motor neurons
