• RETICULAR FORMATION

  ● Extends the entire length of the brain stem

  ● Diffuse mass of gray matter along the brain stem

  ● Involved in motor control of visceral organs
• RETICULAR FORMATION

  ● Reticular Activating System (Ras)

  ○ Plays a role in awake/sleep cycles and consciousness

  ○ Filter for incoming sensory information

  ○ Weak or repetitive signals are filtered out but unusual or strong impulses reach consciousness

  ○ Damage to this area can result in prolonged unconsciousness (coma)
