Adaptations

• There are 3 different adaptation categories;

  • Structural - shape or colour
  • Behavioural
  • Functional - internal processes
• All adaptations occur due to random mutations and help the organism survive. 
• Example of structural adaptations; animals may be a specific colour to camouflage into their environment.
• Example of behaviuoral adaptations; animals may migrate to warmer countries.
• Example of functional adaptations; animals producing little sweat and urine.
• Extremophiles - organisms that live in extreme environments, such as high temperatures or high salt concentrations
