Evolutionary AO3

  • Strength - can explain why males and females differ in their uses of aggression - lots of research shows that there are gender differences in aggression such as in socialisation - Anne Campbell argues it is not adapted for a female with offspring to be physically aggressive because such behaviour would put her own survival at risk and her kid - provides support for differences
  • strengt - RLA - evolutionary explanations can be used to reduce bullying- Ellis et Al suggest alternative strategy in which bullies can be given roles that provides alternative source of status. one approach where you address bullies ‘deficiencies’ - however bullying is still prevalent even with this
  • weakness - substantial cultural differences in aggressive behaviour - there are some cultures where aggression appears to be almost non-existent. Ikung Sar studied ‘harmless people’. they have negative attitude towards the use of aggression and aggressive behaviour is discouraged - some cultures don’t show aggressive behaviour. Such behaviour may not necessarily be adaptive - limits explanation
