  ● Infant learn that things continue to exist even though they cannot be seen

  ● Through learning that objects are separate and distinct entities, a child can attach names and words to objects

  3 Sub-Stages

  1. Primary Circular Reaction (1 - 4 Months)

  ● Repeating pleasurable actions

  2. Secondary Circular Reaction (4 - 8 Months)

  ● Intentionally repeat action to get a response

  3. Tertiary Circular Reaction (12 - 18 Months)

  ● Trial and error experimentation
